Born in central Poland. Studied law at Warsaw University and in Krakow where he obtained a PhD. In 1917-1921 served in Poland's Miltary Aviation, subsequently becoming a civil servant. From 1928 he devoted himself to civil aviation, becoming one of the founders of the Polish airline company, LOT. In 1939 he escaped to Romania, then to France, finally to England, where he served in the Air Force. He transferred to civil aviation in 1941. In 1944 the Polish government-in-exile appointed him delegate to the Chicago International Conference on Civil Aviation, where Henryk was elected to the Air Transport Committee which subsequently became IATA, the International Air Transport Association, representing the world's airlines. Named secretary-treasurer, Henryk subsequently became IATA's Director of Finance. He died at age 67, mourned by his wife, Ruth Bonnie Gosnell.
