Franciszek Xawery PINIŃSKI

Born in Vienna, son of Count Piniński and Helena Gregorowicz. Completed the Austrian School of Cavalry Cadets, served as Lieutenant in WWI, commanding a squadron of Lancers. Was made a prisoner-of-war in Russia, 1916-1918. With the dawn of Polish independence, he enrolled in the Polish Army, serving in its Cavalry, then in the Air Force. Advanced to the rank of Captain in 1925, served in Lwow. Married Maria Zofia Krol, with whom he had two daughters, Maria Teresa and Roza-Maria. Completed the Advanced Aviation School for staff officers and became a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Air Force. In 1937-1940 served in Paris as air-attaché at the Polish Embassy, and in 1940 was appointed liaison officer attached to the French General Staff. After the fall of France, was sent to Canada tasked with helping resettle Polish military families from England. From 1942 to 1945 worked at inspecting RAF planes at Ferry Command in Dorval. Recipient of numerous high military honours. After the war, was employed as banquet and event organizer at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Montreal. Was a connoisseur and collector of antiques. Died at age 63.
