Franciszek POTWOROWSKI
( 1914-1983 )
Born near Poznan. Obtained a Law degree from Lwow University, and completed reserve-officer training. In London, England, at war's outbreak in 1939, he immediately returned home to report for military service. Served as a lieutenant in the September campaign, was made a POW after the fall of Warsaw, spent the war incarcerated in a German oflag. Liberated in 1945, made his way to France to join his wife Krystyna and their five-year old son Edward. Worked in Paris in the Polish military mission. Awarded several military medals, both Polish and foreign. The family emigrated to Montreal in 1953. Subsequently, Potworowski worked for Quebec's Ministry of Social Affairs. He died at age 69, mourned by his wife and three sons, Edward, Jan Andrzej and Krzysztof.

( 1917-2015 )
Born in Przylbice (now in the Ukraine), daughter of Leon Szeptycki et Jadwiga Szembek, sister of Zofia, Anna, Maria, Jan, Andrzej (murdered in the Katyn forest), Wanda and Elzbieta. Wife of Franciszek Potworowski (above), mother of their three sons Edward, Jean-André and Krzysztof. Spent the war years under German occupation in Poland. Came to Canada in 1953, worked at the College of Physicians and at Radio-Canada. Throughout her life, she discreetly helped those in need. Died at age 97.
Andrzej POTWOROWSKI
( 1947-2015 )
Born in France, son of Franciszek Potworowski and Krystyna Szeptycka (above). Brother of Edward and Christophe, father of Charles, Christian and Clara. Arrived in Canada at age 6. After graduating from Loyola College in honors chemistry (1968) went on to the University of Toronto where he obtained a PhD in crystallography (1974).

After working as a freelance science reporter, among others for the CBC and the Montreal Gazette, as well as for the federal government in various science-policy related positions, he obtained an MBA from Harvard University in 1981, and worked as a consultant, and ultimately as a lecturer at the Faculty of Administration, University of Ottawa. Died prematurely of cancer at age 68.
