BELINA-BRZOZOWSKI

( 1914-1995 )
Born and educated in Poland, fought as a Polish officer against the German agressors in 1939, escaped from POW camp, fought in the underground Resistance. Arrested in 1943, sent to Auschwitz and Mauthausen concentration camps, liberated by the US Army in 1945. In 1946 married Irena (below), emigrated from England to Canada in 1949, worked in Montreal as a designer-draughtsman. Died aged 81.
His sister, Jadwiga Zamoyska, grave no. 26 [lot C1 027].

born PLATER-ZYBERK

( 1921-2009 )
Born and educated in Poland. During the Warsaw Uprising in 1944, she served as a nurse. Was deported to a labour camp in Germany. Married Antoni (above) in 1946 in Italy, had 3 children, Izabela, Gabriela and Francis. The family emigrated to Canada in 1949, where she worked as a teacher, artist and writer.
Her mother, Irena Plater-Zyberk, lies in grave no. 83 [lot C1 660], her sister, Jolanta Pomian Bławdziewicz – in grave 84 [lot C1 661], and sister Róża Siemieńska – in grave 45 [lot C1 184].
